The NSD1095N has been designed for situations where the highest quality is required. With a 1-inch exit throat, it has been developed to match the XT1086 constant directivity horn.
Equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture (Patent n. WO 2004/040942), the NSD1095N has been designed to give high level manufacturing consistency and a smooth coherent wavefront at the horn entrance across the whole working frequency range. The phase plug short openings and high flare rate value assure low distortion and overall, the phase plug demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction.
A further innovation in the NSD1095N, when compared to excellent
performances of the ND1090, is a titanium material treatment (TPM technology) developed after extensive research by Eighteen Sound. The special titanium nitride coated dome dramatically improves
stiffness with obvious benefits in transient and intermodulation
distortion response. With its very high value of elasticity modulus,
(six times higher than titanium and two times higher than
beryllium), the nitride thin film is capable of doubling the diaphragm overall stiffness. The piston frequency range motion extends frequency by 25%, showing a predictable, ideal frequency response decay and avoiding top-end spurious resonances.
The NSD1095N diaphragm assembly is composed of nitride titanium dome sandwiched to a proprietary treated polyester suspension. This design maintains low resonance and lowers the minimum crossover point value to 1.6kHz. An edge-wound copper-clad aluminum voice coil, wound on proprietary treated Nomex, completes the diaphragm assembly. Nomex shows a 30% higher value of tensile elongation at a working operative temperature (200°C) when compared to Kapton. Moreover, this proprietary former material is also suitable for use in high moisture content environments.
The NSD1095N’s powerful neodymium magnet assembly has been designed to obtain 20KGauss in the gap giving major benefits in transient response. A copper ring on the pole piece reduces inductance above 10 kHz, improving phase and impedance linearization. The custom designed O-ring creates a tight seal between the plate and the cover assuring air chamber loading. Excellent heat dissipation and thermal exchange are guaranteed by the direct contact between the magnetic structure and the aluminum cover which leads to a lower power compression value.
Due to the increase in use of high power audio systems at outdoor events or in marine environments, the ability to perform properly under inclement weather conditions is a key feature of the Eighteen Sound philosophy. Hence, in addition, a special treatment has been applied to the magnet and the top and back plates of the magnetic structure making the driver more resistant to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidization. This treatment is more effective than any other treatment used by other manufacturers.
The XD125 has been designed for 2 way or 3 way systems. It will deliver an unmatched combination of extended linear frequency response and very high efficiency.
The major advancement in XD125 compression driver consists in a new innovative diaphragm assembly made in proprietary treated polyethylene material. This design maintains the minimum resonance frequency point value at 1600Hz, extending the frequency response in the mid region when compared to previous compression driver model, the XD120.
The design of diaphragm and surround in polyester material allows better control in terms of movement and mechanical stress. Radial ribs increase stiffness avoiding uncontrolled vibration modes in the usable frequency range.
An edge-wound aluminum voice coil, wounded on proprietary treated Nomex, completes diaphragm assembly. Proprietary treated Nomex former, thanks to its physical properties, shows 30% higher value of tensile elongation at working operative temperature(200°C) when compared to Kapton. This plus is capable to keep properly energy transfer control to the dome in real working conditions. Moreover, Eighteen Sound voice coil proprietary Nomex former is suitable to work also in environments with higher moisture contents.
The polypropylene phase plug is the result of a meticulous design exercise. Its shape assures the correct acoustic impedance of the radiating dome, reducing distortion levels across a very wide range of frequency. Final result is a smooth coherent wavefront in the horn entrance, high thermal stability and manufacturing consistency.
The compact and lightweight ceramic magnet assembly has been designed to obtain 16KGauss in the gap.
The XD125 pressure die-cast polyurethane foam horn maintains constant nominal 90° Horizontal x 60° Vertical pattern control, providing consistent on-axis and off-axis frequency response from 2kHz to 16kHz in the horizontal plane and from 2,5kHz to 16 kHz in the vertical plane. Horn directivity is constant from 2,5kHz. Computer Aided Finite Element Analysis and extensive testing were used to obtain the horn contours. Horn is designed to be free of resonance and vibrations assuring maximum strength.
The HD125 1” exit HF unit has been designed as the natural evolution of the industry standard HD120 compression driver. It delivers an unmatched combination of extended linear frequency response and very high efficiency. With a 1-inch exit throat, the HD125 is developed to match our XT120 and XT1086 elliptical shape constant directivity horns.
The major advancement in HD125 compression driver consists in a new innovative diaphragm assembly made in proprietary treated Polyethylene material. This design maintains the minimum resonance frequency point value at 1600Hz, extending the frequency response in the mid region when compared to HD120 compression driver.
The design of diaphragm and its surround in polyester material allow a best movement and stress control; the special radial ribs increase stiffness avoiding uncontrolled vibration modes in the usable frequency range.
An edge-wound aluminum voice coil, wounded on proprietary treated Nomex, completes diaphragm assembly. Thanks to its physical properties, the HD125 former shows 30% higher value of tensile elongation at working operative temperature (200°C) when compared to Kapton. This plus is capable to keep properly energy transfer control to the dome in real working conditions. Moreover, this particular former material is suitable to work also in higher moisture contents environments.
The polypropylene phase plug is the result of a meticulous design exercise. Its shape assures the correct acoustic impedance of the radiating dome, reducing distortion levels across a very wide frequency range. At the end, it results in a smooth coherent wavefront in the horn entrance, high thermal stability and manufacturing consistency.
The HD125 compact size and lightweight ceramic magnet assembly has been designed to obtain 16KGauss in the gap.
The HD1040 has been designed for use in high quality audio systems. With a 1-inch exit throat, the HD1040 has been developed to match the XT1086 constant directivity horn.
Equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture (Patent n. WO 2004/040942), the HD1040 has been designed to give high level manufacturing consistency and smooth coherent wave front at the horn entrance across the whole working frequency range. The phase plug with its short openings and high flare rate value assures low distortion and demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction.
The greatest innovation in the HD1040 is the new diaphragm assembly made from proprietary treated Polyethylene material. Thanks to its superior diaphragm dimensional stability (160°C), the HD1040 is able to maintain constant behaviour during its whole working life. Moreover, this particular material with its very high value of elasticity modulus, (50% more than standard Mylar and 100% more than polyimide film) is capable of superior transient and intermodulation distortion response. The flat suspension shape is designed to maintain low stiffness and low mid band distortion and response.
An edge-wound aluminum voice coil wound on proprietary treated Nomex completes the diaphragm assembly. Thanks to its physical properties, the proprietary treated Nomex former shows a 30% higher value of tensile elongation at a working operative temperature, (200°C) when compared to Kapton. This feature enables proper energy transfer control from the voice coil to the dome in real working conditions. Moreover, this proprietary former material is suitable for use in damp and wet environments.
The HD1040’s powerful ceramic magnet assembly has been designed to obtain 16KGauss in the gap within a compact ferrite motor structure.

The HD1050 has been designed for use in high quality audio systems. With a 1-inch exit throat, the HD1050 has been developed to match the XT1086 constant directivity horn.
Equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture (Patent n. WO 2004/040942), the HD1050 has been designed to give high level manufacturing consistency and smooth coherent wave front at the horn entrance across the whole working frequency range. The phase plug with its short openings and high flare rate value assures low distortion and demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction.
The HD1050 diaphragm assembly is composed of a titanium dome sandwiched to a proprietary treated polyester suspension unit. It has been designed to maintain low resonance, lowering the minimum crossover point value at 1,6kHz. An edge-wound aluminum voice coil, wound on proprietary treated Nomex, completes the diaphragm assembly. Thanks to its physical properties, the proprietary treated Nomex former has a 30% higher value of tensile elongation at a working operative temperature (200°C) when compared to Kapton. This feature enables proper energy transfer control from the voice coil to the dome in real working conditions. Moreover, this proprietary former material is also suitable to for use in higher moisture content environments.
The HD1050’s powerful ceramic magnet assembly has been designed to obtain 16KGauss in the gap and within a compact ferrite motor structure.
The ND1020 has been designed for use in situations where the highest possible sound quality is required. With its 1-inch exit throat, the ND1020 has been developed to match the XT1086 and XT120 constant directivity horns.
The most important innovation in the ND1020 is the development of a Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) material for the diaphragm assembly. The ND1020 has a superior diaphragm dimensional stability compared to conventional Mylar film (160°C as a thermal rating compared to 105°C for PET) and can maintain a constant performance during its whole working life. Moreover, PEN film with its very high value of elasticity modulus (6000MPa compared to 4000MPa for PET and 2800MPa for polyimide film) is capable of a superior transient and intermodulation distortion response. The flat punched suspension shape has been designed to maintain low stiffness for superior low mid band distortion and response. An edge-wound copper clad aluminum voice coil wound on treated nomex completes the diaphragm assembly. Nomex has a 20% higher value of tensile elongation at 200°C than the value at room temperature, (in comparison, Kapton tensile elongation is 30% lower at 200°C than the value at room temperature). Hence, Nomex is capable of keeping energy transfer from the voice coil to the dome under control, especially when the voice coil reaches high temperatures. Moreover, Eighteen Sound’s voice coil Nomex former, can work in environments with a high moisture content, thanks to its very low porosity which is due to its highly calendered surfaces.
The ND1020’s magnetic assembly is equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture (Patent n. WO 2004/040942). It has been designed to give smooth coherent wave front at the horn entrance over the whole working frequency range, as well as high level manufacturing consistency. The ND1020 phase plug with its short openings and high flare rate value, assures low distortion and demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction.
Another big innovation in the ND1020 is the new magnetic architecture. By carefully using elementary pieces of neodymium magnets, Eighteen Sound engineers have developed a powerful neodymium magnet assembly capable of reaching 18KGauss in the gap within a compact and lightweight structure.
The ND1030 has been designed for use in high quality two-way audio systems. With a 1-inch throat exit, the ND1030 has been developed to match the XT1086 and the XT120 constant directivity horns.
The ND1030 exhibits a constant slope response from 1.5kHz to 18kHz with a uniform and smooth roll-off. With a 900Hz free air resonance frequency, the ND1030 can easily be cut-off at 1800Hz and is capable of 60W continuous power handling with a 1800Hz pink-noise signal, and a 6dB crest factor with a minimum 12dB/oct crossover slope.
Equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture (Patent n. WO 2004/040942), the ND1030 has been designed to give a smooth coherent wavefront at the horn entrance in the whole working frequency range, as well as high level manufacturing consistency. The phase plug with its short openings and high flare rate value assures low distortion and demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction.
The ND1030 titanium diaphragm assembly, with its ellipsoidal suspension shape, exhibits a constant slope response from 1kHz to 18kHz with uniform smooth roll-off behavior. An edge-wound aluminum voice coil, wound on proprietary treated Nomex, completes the diaphragm assembly. Nomex shows a 30% higher value of tensile elongation at a working operative temperature (200°C) when compared to Kapton. This feature enables proper energy transfer control from the voice coil to the dome in real working conditions. Moreover, this proprietary former material is also suitable for use in higher moisture content environments.
The big innovation in the ND1030 is the magnetic architecture. By careful use of elementary pieces of neodymium magnets, Eighteen Sound engineers have developed a powerful neodymium magnet assembly capable of reaching 18KGauss in the gap within a compact and lightweight structure.
The ND1060 has been designed for use in high quality two way audio systems. With a 1-inch throat exit, the ND1060 has been developed to match the XT1086 constant directivity horn.
One advancement in the ND1060 is its new innovative diaphragm assembly made from a proprietary treated Polyethylene material. Consequently, the ND1060, with its inherent superior diaphragm dimensional stability (160°C), is able to maintain constant behavior during its whole working life. Moreover, the proprietary treated polyethylene film, with its very high value of modulus of elasticity (50% more than standard Mylar and 100% more than polyimide film), is capable of superior transient and intermodulation distortion response. The flat suspension shape has been designed to maintain low stiffness and low mid band distortion and response. An edge-wound aluminum voice coil wound on proprietary treated Nomex completes the diaphragm assembly. Nomex shows a 30% higher value of tensile elongation at a working operative temperature (200°C) when compared to Kapton. This feature enables proper energy transfer control from the voice coil to the dome in real working conditions. Further, this proprietary former material is also suitable for use in high moisture content environments.
Equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture (Patent n. WO 2004/040942), the ND1060 has been designed to give high level manufacturing consistency and a smooth coherent wavefront at the horn entrance across the whole working frequency range. With its short openings and high flare rate value, the phase plug assures low distortion and demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction. Another big innovation in ND1060 is the new magnetic architecture. By careful use of elementary pieces of neodymium magnets, Eighteen Sound engineers have developed a powerful neodymium magnet assembly capable of reaching 18KGauss in the gap, within a compact and lightweight structure. A copper ring on the pole piece reduces inductance above 10 kHz, improving phase and impedance linearization. The custom designed O-ring creates a tight seal between the plate and the cover assuring air chamber loading. Excellent heat dissipation and thermal exchange are guaranteed by the direct contact between the magnetic structure and the aluminum cover which facilitates a lower power compression value.
Due to the increase in use of high power audio systems at outdoor events or in marine environments, the ability to perform properly under inclement weather conditions is a key-point in the Eighteen Sound philosophy. Hence, in addition, a special treatment has been applied to the magnet and the top and back plates of the magnetic structure making the driver more resistant to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidization. This treatment is more effective than any other treatment used by other manufacturers.
The ND1070 has been designed for use in high quality two-way audio systems. With a 1-inch throat exit, the ND1070 has been developed to match the XT1086 constant directivity horn.
Equipped with unique Phase Plug architecture (Patent n. WO 2004/040942), the ND1070 has been designed to give high level manufacturing consistency and a smooth coherent wavefront at the horn entrance across the whole working frequency range. With its short openings and high flare rate value, the phase plug assures low distortion and demonstrates remarkable improvements in mid-high frequency reproduction.
The ND1070 diaphragm assembly is composed of a titanium dome sandwiched to a proprietary treated polyester suspension. This design maintains low resonance and lowers the minimum crossover point value to 1.6 kHz.
Moreover, this proprietary former material is also suitable for use in high moisture content environments.
The big innovation in the ND1070 is its magnetic architecture. By careful use of elementary pieces of neodymium magnets, Eighteen Sound engineers have developed a powerful neodymium magnet assembly capable of reaching 18KGauss in the gap within a compact and lightweight structure.
Due to the increase in use of high power audio systems at outdoor events or in marine environments, the ability to perform properly under inclement weather conditions is a key feature in Eighteen Sound philosophy. Hence, in addition, a special treatment has been applied to the magnet and the top and back plates of the magnetic structure making the driver more resistant to the corrosive effects of salts and oxidization. This treatment is more effective than any other treatment used by other manufacturers.
